counterpart by using the
ping
command again. For how to view the
ping
command’s operation example and the execution result, refer to Subsection
5.2.2, “Confirming the communication with relevant destination address”
on page 5-7.
Step 3.
If the server is directly connected to a client, check the HUB connection and
cables.
Step 4.
Go to the next step of the troubleshooting flowchart, depending on whether
the
ping
command result indicates the failure range in a neighbor device or
a remote device.
(d) Inspection of Route Information
Communication may be disabled in the middle of the route to the destination, or the
route might not be working properly, even though the address for the neighbor host/
router is solved. The procedure for confirming the route information that this device
has obtained is given below.
Step 1.
Log in to this router.
Step 2.
Use the
show ip route
command to inspect the route information that this
device has obtained.
(e) Inspection of FiItering/QoS Definition Information
If communication cannot be performed despite the device having no physical
impediments and the route information having also been set correctly, it is possible
that the setting is such that the filtering function is stopping only the effected
packets or the packets are being discarded by the QoS function band control, output
priority control or abolishment control. Therefore, confirm that the setting condition
for the filtering function and the QoS function for the configuration defining
information are correct and that the band control, output priority control or
abolishment control in the system structuring is appropriate in the system
operation.
7.5.2.3
Troubleshooting DHCP Client Communication Failures
Four factors that may produce communication troubles in the DHCP client (no IP
address can be distributed to this device’s DHCP client interface) are as follows:
Refer to Subsection 7.5.1, “Communication cannot be done or communication is
disconnected” on page 7-23 for the communication failure after distribution of IP
address.
1. Error in setting the configuration defining information.
2. Impediments in the DHCP client.
3. Problem in network configuration.
4. Impediments among the DHCP servers.
First, confirm that the IP address has been derived from the DHCP server.
If the IP address has not been derived, follow the procedure described in the following
flow to divide the cause.
Confirm first the impediment log by using the show logging and the status of the
interface by using the show ip interface.
