If the expected result does not appear, ensure the following:
When the line is not operating normally (“Line0: active up” is not given):
1. Is the cable disconnected or loosely connected?
2. Is the choice of cross cable/straight cable correct?
3. Is startup of the connected device complete?
When the line type does not match the connected device:
1. Does the communication speed and type (full duplex/half duplex) of the
connected device match the configuration information?
2. Is the router’s configuration information defined as AutoNegotiate although the
connected device is fixed to full-duplex?

Assurance on WAN Line
[Example]
To assure the WAN line, enter the
show nif (WAN)
command from the device
management terminal as follows:
>
show nif 1 [CR]
The result will appear as Figure 8-37, which assumes that the line No. 0 in NIF No. 1
is a V.24 line. In this example the line is enabled because of the following:
The subject NIF is operating normally (in this example, “NIF1: active”).
The subject line is operating normally (in this example, “Line0: active up”).
