Status Assurances on BCU/RP/NIF and Lines
8.6.1
Assurance on Standby BCU Newly Added or Swapped
This procedure applies to daily monitoring, post-maintenance or post-upgrade
checkout, or error handling relating to BCUs (including CPU fans).
First, enter
show router
command from the device management terminal connected to
the active side.
> show router [CR]
The result will appear as in Figure 8-34 where you find the status of the standby
BCU. In this example, “rm0” is the active BCU and “rm1” is the standby BCU.

The following are the possible statuses for the standby BCU:
(a)
standby
. The status is normal.
(b)
fault.
The standby BCU is faulty or being initialized. The latter can be
identified by the STATUS LED blinking green. If not, execute the
show logging
command to obtain detailed information on the standby BCU.
(c)
close
. The standby BCU is under maintenance and duplex operation is
temporarily disabled. When maintenance is complete, enter the following
command from the device management terminal connected to the active BCU:
>
free standby [CR]
(d)
disconnect
. Standby BCU (RM-I/O, RM-CPU, or CSW) is disconnected.
(e)
configuration discord
. The configuration information of the active BCU and
that of the standby BCU do not match, disabling normal duplex operation. To
resolve the configuration information mismatch, see Subsection 4.5.2,
“Precautions during duplex operation”.
(f)
software version discord
. The software versions of the active BCU and those
of the standby BCU do not match, disabling normal duplex operation. Resolve
the software version mismatch.
8.6.2
Assurance on RP and NIF Newly Added or Swapped
Procedures exemplified below apply to daily monitoring, post-maintenance or
post-upgrade checkout, or error handling relating to RPs and NIFs.
