The acceptable/valid operating range for each item in this section is provided in parentheses.

Default MODCOD (read-only) – This section displays the effective data rate of the default

MODCOD based on the symbol rate.

Click the (Change the “

WAN | QoS page (Sect.

) if setting changes are needed.

Total Capacity (read-only)

Reports the Total Capacity in Kbps of the Outbound Carrier at

the current MODCOD distribution. This the same value as reported on the Status | Statistics

| Outbound page.

Outbound ACM – Use the drop-down list to Enable or Disable Outbound ACM. Click

Appendix E. OUTBOUND ACM (ADAPTIVE CODING

AND

MODULATION)

Outbound ACM (Adaptive Coding and Modulation) allows you to configure the CTOG-250 to

dynamically adjust the DVB-S2 MODCODs that are sent to each CDM-840 Remote Router

based upon the conditions at that remote. These conditions include antenna size, look angle

and satellite band, as well as the current environmental conditions. Each remote will

automatically and periodically send its Rx Es/No to the associated CTOG-250.

Requirements for Outbound ACM operation are as follows:

1. Comtech Dynamic Routing Protocol (CDRP) must be enabled because the ACM

Controller uses the remote to route mapping provided by CDRP to properly determine

the required MODCOD upon which to transport the packets destined to each remote.

(To enable CDRP, see Sect. 7.4.4.3.3.1 Configuration | Network | Routing.)

2. Outbound ACM must be enabled.

3. When Outbound ACM is disabled, all packets will revert to the “VCM Only MODCOD”

which is configured in each QoS Group.

4. Each CDM-840 must be locked to the Shared Outbound carrier from the CDM-800.

If a CDM-840 Remote Router reports that its demod is unlocked, the ACM

Controller will assign the lowest MODCOD (QPSK ¼) to that remote in an

effort to “recover” the remote. Once the remote locks again, the ACM

algorithm adapts to the correct MODCOD for the reported Rx Es/No.

5. A packet path is required from the CDM-840 to the CDM-800 Management Interface.
