POS4000/V2 Operations Manual
Appendix F. APPENDIX V - AUTOTEC
The Autotec system is a combination of the Unitec POS4000 point of sale
terminal and a Hamilton AutoCashier modified to communicate with a POS4000.
Most all of the functions of the POS4000 remain as described in this manual.
However, some functions are either ignored or not available for use with the
Autotec System. When a customer enters a code, the Autocashier
communicates that code to the POS4000, which determines which program the
code is valid for. Assuming the code is valid, the autocashier gives the customer
a credit for the full price of the feature the code is valid for. This credit may then
be applied to any available wash program. If the customer desires the program
that the code is valid for, they can make that item selection or simply enter the
wash. If the customer desires a different selection, they must select that item
and deposit any additional cash required. When the customer enters the wash,
the Autocashier activates the highest priced program that the customer's credit
can pay for.
You should avoid having more than one program priced at the same amount.
Example, if program 1 is $4.00 and program 3 is $4.00 then any program 1 code
(regardless of the discount level) will result in a program 3 being activated. Any
time the regular (full) prices are changed at the POS4000, the new prices are
automatically downloaded to the AutoCashier. This ensures that both systems
are operating with the same prices. For this reason, it is important that the
AutoCashier and POS4000 are communicating when the prices are set. If the
bottom line of the POS4000 display reads "TIMEOUT FROM UNIT 2" then the
units are not communicating and the updated pricing will NOT be sent to the
AutoCashier.
The accounting reports for an Autotec system are very similar to those for other
systems (see appendix III). In addition to the code sales and usage information
the following detail is provided for the activity at the AutoCashier:
! Cash Dispensed
! Cash Deposited (broken down by denomination)
! Tokenote Usage (broken down by value)
! AutoCashier pricing information and a warning if it is different from the
POS4000 prices.
The communication link between the AutoCashier and the POS4000 should be
made using the supplied 3-conductor shielded cable. The POS4000 end of the
cable mates to a 3-terminal phoenix connector. The AutoCashier end of the
cable mates to a 3-pin Molex connector. The wiring should be as follows:
