11.2.2 Launch a query
Launched queries can be in one of these two modes: default or parameterized. When viewing the New Query
page, note the three icons at the bottom of the page:

11.2.3 Default mode
With the Default mode icon, you will be able to launch a query immediately. This mode is mostly used for
queries for which few resources (such as CPU or memory) are required, or for which an immediate result is
necessary. The default mode will launch a query with the default parameters. This means the printing date
will be between 1/1/2000 and 12/31/2020, and it will run for all users, printers, and print servers.
This mode must be used for very simple queries such as “list of users,” “list of printers,” or “total number of
pages printed by…” For complex queries, it is recommended to filter on a date range, a specific user, or a
specific printer; and the parameterized mode must be used.
For more information on how to view your query results, see the Display results section of this guide.
CAUTION:
Some update processes are not synchronized to avoid penalizing printing times and servers—
therefore some results can have incomplete or erroneous data. Wait a short while and then run the query
again, and your data should be corrected. By launching a query in this mode, you will take all default
parameters into account. For more information on default parameters, see the Parameterize queries section
of this guide.
Use the following steps to perform a query using the Default mode:
1.
Select a query.
2.
Click the Default mode icon.
A progress message appears to verify that the query is running. The query table appears.
11.2.4 Parameterized mode
The Parameterized mode icon provides search parameters that focus the scope of returned information. You
will also be able to schedule your query so that its launch does not burden processors during peak hours
(such as at night) or at regular periods (for example, daily or monthly). This mode allows you to benefit from
synchronized information, using the most recent data available. It is also an advantage for queries that are
complex or lengthy to perform, or that require a lot of CPU and memory resources.
For more information on query types, see the HP Access Control (HP AC) Job Accounting queries section of
this guide.
