From a desktop e-mail client, send a test e-mail to the new e-mail account created on the SMTP server for
the machine. Log in to the mail server with the new account name and password to verify that the e-mail
was received at the server.

Tip: A webmail application makes a convenient tool to use to log in to the mail server to check for the
receipt of e-mail.

Has the Internet Fax (e-mail) been received at the SMTP server?

SMTP items to check

1.

Is the machine's account name and password correct?

2.

Is the mail server down?

3.

Ask the SMTP administrator to confirm that no errors were encountered and check for 'bounce'
messages to the machine's "Reply To" address.

4.

Check that the message size does not exceed the attachment or message size limit policy of your
SMTP server.

5.

Check that the mail server is configured to accept SMTP mail, as not all servers are configured to
accept SMTP e-mail. The machine requires access to a mail server that is configured for SMTP.

6.

Check for restricted host addresses at the SMTP server. Verify that the machine is not a restricted
host.

7.

Troubleshoot the network path to the SMTP server. It may be necessary to perform a network trace
analysis.
