2.2 Relay
Box
(1) Overview of Relay Box
The relay box is a unit needed to externally cut off the motor power input to the Global
Specification X-SEL Controller in response to an input action via the emergency-stop button or
deadman switch on the teaching pendant.
The relay box has a connector terminal block providing the contact outputs for emergency-stop
button and deadman switch. These contact outputs are used to cut off the drive power in
accordance with the pressing of the emergency-stop button or deadman switch on the teaching
pendant. (A circuit is required that cuts off the drive power the moment the contact output for
emergency-stop button or deadman switch becomes open.)
The connector terminal block also has terminals for inputting a drive-power cutoff condition such
as "emergency stop" or "enable" to the controller. By inputting an appropriate signal the moment
the drive power is cut off externally, the controller can perform appropriate processing such as
an emergency stop. (A circuit is required that inputs a drive-power cutoff condition such as
"emergency stop" or "enable" to the controller the moment the drive power is cut off.)
IAI's teaching pendant SEL-T and IA-T-XD provide a single contact that responds to both the
emergency-stop button and deadman switch. Therefore, the ANSI-compatible teaching pendant
SEL-TD and IA-T-XA providing two contact outputs must be used if you wish to configure a
control system meeting safety category 3 or 4.
