INTELLIGENT ACTUATOR
Number of Regenerative Resistance Units (REU-1s) to Be Connected
Regenerative energy that generates under certain conditions such as when the actuator decelerates to a
stop or moves downward in a vertical application is absorbed by the capacitor or resistor in the controller.
If the generated regenerative energy cannot be fully absorbed in the controller, an overvoltage error
occurs and the operation can no longer be continued.
In this case, the following processing must be performed:
Connect an external regeneration box or boxes. (Refer to the following table “Reference Number of
Regenerative Resistance Units (REU-1s) to Be Connected.”)
Increase the cycle time.
Decrease the speed.
Shorten the travel (vertical application).
Reduce the loading capacity.
Do not perform synchronized operation (when multiple axes are connected).
If the actuator is installed horizontally, regenerative energy generates when the actuator decelerates to a
stop. If the actuator is installed vertically, regenerative energy generates mainly when the actuator moves
downward. Accordingly, if two or more axes are connected you can reduce the regenerative energy by
moving them in a manner preventing the aforementioned operations from occurring simultaneously.
Reference Number of Regenerative Resistance Units (REU-1s) to Be Connected
You need a regenerative resistance unit or units only when an actuator or actuators is/are used as vertical
axis(es) (Z-axis(es)).

*1 If the total wattage is 1200 W or more, the number of regenerative resistance units to be connected varies
depending on the use condition (operation duty). The higher the operation duty, the greater the necessary number
of regenerative resistance units becomes.
