10.8. Remove the nuts and flat washers from both
bolts that hold the steering sector bracket to the
frame using two 9/16” wrenches.
10.9. Back the bolts part way out of the frame, leaving
1/4” to 3/8” clearance between the head of each
bolt and the frame.
10.10.Push the steering rack to the left to slip the
steering sector bracket off of the two bolts, and
lower the steering rack far enough to allow the
lower steering shaft to clear the floor.
10.11. On the bench, remove the two nuts, bolts, and
washers that hold the steering sector bracket to
the steering rack using two 9/16” wrenches. See
Figure 10.11.
10.12.If a new rack is to be installed, loosely bolt the
steering sector bracket to the new steering rack
in the same orientation that it was in on the
removed rack.
NOTE: Tighten the mounting bolts after installa-
tion in the Big Country.
10.13.Mark and measure the positions of the tie rod
ends to establish base-line adjustments for the
new rack. Refer to the “Tie Rod End Removal
and Replacement” section. See Figure 10.13.
