5.

Wheel Bearing Removal and Replacement

NOTE: Check the wheel bearings every 100
hours of operation, and any time the front wheel
is removed for service. Bearing removal is not
necessary. Check the bearings for obvious
physical damage, looseness and smoothness of
rotation.

5.1.

Lift and support the front of the Big Country and
remove the front wheels as described in “Lifting
the Big Country and Removing the Front
Wheels”.

5.2.

Support the steel part of the wheel on a solid
surface, providing enough clearance beneath
the wheel to allow the bearing to come out.

NOTE: Some tires available on the Big Country
provide enough cushion to absorb the impact
that is meant to drive the bearing out of the
wheel.

5.3.

Drive the lower bearing and spacer out of the
wheel using a hammer and drift. See Figure 5.3.

5.4.

Turn the wheel assembly over, and drive out the
remaining bearing using a hammer and drift.
See Figure 5.4.

5.5.

To install new wheel bearings, Position the
first new bearing in the wheel.
