7.3.
Using two 17mm wrenches, remove the nut from
the upper bolt that holds the shock and spring
unit to the frame.
7.4.
Remove the bolt that holds the bottom of the
shock and spring unit to the axle assembly.
See Figure 7.4.
NOTE: The spring and shock unit is not in com-
pression, and can be safely removed without a
spring compressor.
NOTE: The axle assembly will hang down until
the shock and spring unit is installed.
7.5.
Push out the bolt that holds the top of the spring
and shock unit to the frame using 3/8” x 1 3/8”
dowel. See Figure 7.5.

7.6.
Remove the shock and spring unit from the
bracket on the frame, taking care to hold the two
spacers on dowel.
7.7.
To install a new spring and shock unit,
reverse the steps used to remove it.
NOTE: The longer end of the spring and shock
unit is the top.
NOTE: Tighten the nuts to a torque of
48-58 ft-lbs.
NOTE: The spring and shock units are not ser-
viceable. Replace each as a complete unit if
damaged. Replace in axle pairs if worn.

Steering Knuckle Removal and Replacement
8.1.
Lift and support the front of the Big Country and
remove the front wheel as described in “Lifting
the Big Country and Removing the Front
Wheels”.
8.2.
Remove the nut that holds the steering knuckle
to the axle assembly using two 3/4” wrenches.
Do not remove the pivot bolt at this time.
See Figure 8.2.
8.3.
Loosen the nut that holds the tie rod end to the
steering knuckle using a 19mm wrench. The
nylon lock ring must be past the end of the
threads.
8.4.
Turn the steering wheel in the direction that fully
extends the tie rod end that is to be discon-
nected.
