flats that are ground into the rod, and wind the
tie rod end off of the tie rod.
6.9.
While the tie rod is disconnected, check the fit
between the steering knuckle and the axle
assembly. See Figure 6.9.
NOTE: Pivot the steering knuckle through its full
range of motion. It should not bind.
NOTE: Apply a rocking motion to the steering
knuckle to check for worn sleeve bearings.

the threaded portion of the tie rod.
6.11. Install the new tie rod end on the tie rod,
threading it down to the jam nut.

knuckle.
6.13. Tighten the nut to a torque of 80-95 ft-lb using a

between the nylon lock ring and the threads on
the tie rod end.
6.14. Install the wheel and lower the Big Country to
the ground.
NOTE: Tighten the bolt that holds the front
wheel to 80-85 ft-lbs. using a 3/4” socket.
6.15. Check the toe angle. Refer to the “Checking and
Adjusting the Front Wheel Alignment” section of
this manual.
6.16. Tighten the jam nut against the tie rod end to a
torque of 35-45 ft-lbs using two 22mm wrenches.
NOTE: The paint marks made prior to loosening
