10.5. Slide the flat washer towards the compression
spring.
10.6. Remove the retainer clip using a small flat-blade
screwdriver.
10.7. Release the compression spring. See Figure
10.7.
10.8. Slide the compression spring and flat washer all
the way to the right.
10.9. Grasp the compression spring, flat washer and
PTO actuator with your right hand.
10.10. Grasp the PTO select arm with your left hand,
and pull the PTO actuator shaft out the left side
of the transmission housing.
NOTE: Make certain all the remaining compo-
nents do not drop to the bottom of the transmis-
sion housing.
10.11. Remove the compression spring, flat washer
and PTO actuator from the transmission.
10.12. Inspect all of the components for wear or dam-
age. See Figure 10.12.
11. PTO BACK SHAFT ASSEMBLY:
11.1. Remove the 540 PTO pinion: 14T gear and the
spline coupling gear together. See Figure 11.1.
