SCSI ID number (of 0 to 5 from the bottom of the front, from the
left on a rack model server) are assigned to each slot of a hard disk
drive.
When installing additional hard disk drives, be sure to install them
from the bottom (from the left on a rack model server).
NOTE: In order to use the Ultra320 SCSI mode compatible
hard disk drive in Ultra320 SCSI mode, the hard disk
controller and all the hard disk drives must be compatible with
the Ultra320 SCSI mode.
MR518/MR520 is the hard disk controller that is compatible
with Ultra320 SCSI mode.
Installing the hard disk drive
NOTE: The installation and replacement of a hard disk drive
requires special technology or knowledge. If you have no
experience in installing a hard disk drive, consult your autho-
rized MAGNIA service provider. (Services will be provided for
a fee.)
An error in the installation procedure may damage the server
or destroy it, and you may lose important programs or data.
For details on hot-
plugging a hard disk
drive, see “Replacing a hard disk drive during operation” on
page 125.
Install the hard disk drive in the procedure described below after
referring to “Before starting operation” on page 57.
1 If the server is running, shut it down and turn off the power.
2 Unplug all the power cables of the server.
