The following table lists error messages that can be issued from the TFTP
server. These messages are sent to the client and are meant to be read
from the client perspective.
Error Message
Explanation
TFTP server only supports
octet mode
The client is attempting to transfer a file in
ASCII mode. The access point TFTP server
only supports octet mode, which includes
binary and image.
Unable to open remote file The TFTP server cannot open the file that
is named in the read or write request.
If you are trying to read a file, the file may
not exist.
If you are trying to write a file, the file may
be too big, the file may not have a access
point file header, or the file name may be
incorrectly formed.
Can’t read remote file
The server returns this message if the
access point file system returns an error
while the server is attempting to read the
file. This message is unlikely to occur.
Can’t write remote file
The server returns this message if the
access point file system returns an error
while the server is attempting to write the
file. This message is unlikely to occur.
TFTP opcode not read or
write request
This error should not occur under normal
operating conditions. This error indicates
that the TFTP client does not conform to
the protocol.
Invalid opcode during read This error should not occur under normal
operating conditions. This error indicates
that the TFTP client does not conform to
the protocol.
Invalid opcode during write This error should not occur under normal
operating conditions. This error indicates
that the TFTP client does not conform to
the protocol.
