- Loading Label Rolls
- 1 If you are replacing a spent roll, inspect the feeder media path and locate the end-of-roll tape/label from the spent roll. Remove this tape/label and discard.
- 2 Lift the mandrel and flange assembly out of the feeder.
- 3 Locate the quarter-turn lock on the left end of the mandrel. Insert it into the locking base on the feeder. Turn the mandrel one quarter turn counterclockwise to lock it into position.
- 4 Locate the green knurled thumbscrew on the other end of the mandrel. Turn it counterclockwise to unlock the flanges.
- 5 Ensure the mandrel is locked in place. Then grasp the top flange and pull it up as far as it will go. It will stop moving when it almost reaches the end of the mandrel. Then turn the top flange counterclockwise and remove it (“unscrew it”) from...
- 6 Remove the empty core from the mandrel.
- 7 The new roll of labels must be on a core and be as flat as possible. Tamp the roll squarely on a sturdy flat surface. Then repeat for the other side of the roll.
- 8 Slide the roll of labels onto the mandrel. Ensure the roll is positioned so the labels unwind over the roll and to the right.
- 9 Re-install the top flange by turning it clockwise until it is tight. Hold the mandrel as you turn the flange to prevent the assembly from unlocking from the base on the feeder.
- 10 Grasp the top flange and push it toward the label roll. It will stop moving when it is against the label roll.
- 11 Turn the knurled thumbscrew clockwise to lock the flanges into position. The thumbscrew should be finger tight only.
- 12 Turn the mandrel and flange assembly one quarter turn clockwise. This will unlock it from the base on the feeder.
- 13 Insert the media through and slightly past the rollers. This will allow the rollers to clamp the media in the next part of this step.
- 14 Open the cutter cover and remove the small piece of cut media. Then close the cover. If you are using reflective mark or gap media, save the cut portion for the next step.
- 15 If you are using reflective mark or gap media, evaluate the cut position and adjust if necessary.
- • Green Area - The cut is acceptable.
- • Red Area - The cut is not acceptable. It would result in a narrow media strip entering the printer.

- 1 Ensure the label media has been loaded.
- 2 Touch Settings > Media on the touchscreen
- 3 Select your media from the Media Type list.
- 4 Select a sensor type.
- • Continuous - Choose this option if you are using continuous media. No further action is required, as continuous media does not require calibration. Skip the remaining steps in this procedure.
- • Gap - Choose this option if you are using gap media.
- • Reflective (Bottom) - Choose this option if you are using reflective mark media with the mark on the back of the media.
- • Reflective (Top) - Choose this option if you are using reflective mark media with the mark on the front of the media.
- • Reflective mark media (also called “cue mark” media) - Observe the location of the reflective mark on the back of your label media. Position the sensor so the mark will pass directly below it as media moves forward.
- If the mark spans the entire label width, you can position the sensor anywhere over the label.
- If there are no vertical gaps separating multiple-up labels, you can position the sensor anywhere over the label.
- If the label construction includes a vertical gap separating multiple-up labels, ensure the sensor is not positioned over the vertical gap.
- If the label construction includes rounded corners, ensure the sensor is not positioned over a label corner.
