External Power
The ADS ® FlowShark ® IS system (monitor and EMU) can receive
power from an external DC power source connected to the EMU
(ADS p/n 3800-0148EP). However, any connection of external
power to the monitor must occur through an EMU for compliance
with IS certifications.
ADS recommends using external power at sites where the monitor
is operating at fast sample rates, frequent wireless communication is
expected, and/or the monitor will be installed for several years.
Using a single DC source to power both the EMU and the monitor
can be cost effective because it eliminates the need for both the IS
battery pack and the EMU alkaline pack.
Note:
When installing an externally-powered EMU, ADS
recommends locating the EMU as close as possible to the
power source to maximize the net power available to the
EMU.
The following FlowShark IS models support external power:

5000-IS1

5000-IS1-US
Note: Neither model provides backup power in the event
of an external power source interruption. The monitor will
not lose data: however, it will stop taking readings until
power is restored.
