Installing the Communication Cable
After finalizing the cable route, run the communication cable (ADS
p/n 106227) between the monitor location and the designated EMU
location in the following way:
Note:
The following instructions represent a
communication cable installation that occurs from the
EMU location to the manhole through soil. If a transition
must occur through asphalt or concrete, create a ½-inch
(13-mm) wide by 1-inch (25-mm), at a minimum, deep saw
cut trench. Make sure the opening and communication
cable are clean and free of dirt, debris, and grease before
laying the cable. Use only approved loop sealant or
concrete joint sealant to secure the cable into roadway. To
prevent wear or damage to the communication cable, avoid
sharp transitions where the concrete or asphalt meets other
surfaces.
1. Remove the orange connector from the communication cable
end, if attached, and inspect the ends of each small wire
extending from the cable.
2. Verify the wire ends are stripped correctly with ¼-inch (6 mm)
exposed. If any wire ends are not stripped or are stripped less
than ¼ inch (6 mm), prepare the wires in the following way:
