PIF

Physical interface (PIF) objects are the ports on these resources through which LAN connections are made:

Ethernet ServerNet addressable controllers (E4SA

SAC

Fast Ethernet ServerNet addressable controller (FESA SACs)

Gigabit Ethernet ServerNet addressable controllers (GESA SACs)

Common Controller ServerNet addressable controllers (CCSA SACs)

Token Ring ServerNet addressable controllers (TRSA SACs)

Location in OSM Tree: System > Group > Module > CRU > SAC > PIF

PIF

Displayed in the Attributes tab and Attributes dialog box only if the value is something
other than OK.

Values

Service State

Logical

Valid only for FESA and GESA PIFs.
The transmission rate for the ServerNet addressable controller.

Current Configured Speed

The state of the component as known to the operating system on the server.

Values

Device State

The transmission mode for the ServerNet addressable controller.
Values: Half Duplex, Full Duplex, Unknown

Duplex Mode

The media access control (MAC) address of the PIF hardware.

Hardware MAC Address

Displayed for CCSA PIFs only.

Interface Type

The maximum transmission rate for the ServerNet addressable controller.
Values: 10 megabits per second, 100 megabits per second, Unknown

Maximum Speed

The media access control (MAC) address of the PIF network.

Network MAC Address

The processor numbers for processors that have a successful data path to the PIF.
If no processor has a path, "None" is shown.
Example: (0,1)

Processors with Data Path

Valid only for the TRSA CRU.
The current state of the Token Ring.

Values: Opened, Opening, Open Failure, Closed, Closing, Ring Failure

Ring State

Valid only for the TRSA CRU.
Status (success or reason for failure) of the most recent attempt to enter the Token
Ring.

Values: Last Open Successful, No Open Attempted, Bad Parameter, Lobe Failed,
Signal Loss, Insertion Timeout, Ring Failure, Beaconing, Duplicate MAC, Request
Failed, Remove Received

Ring Open Status

Valid only for E4SA PIFs.
A value of Up confirms that the cable from the PIF to the LAN is connected and
operational.

A value of Down indicates a problem with LAN connectivity.

Link Pulse State

Actions

Abort

Terminates operation of the PIF. When the Abort action finishes, the PIF is in the Stopped state.
