Brake Fluid
Your braKe masler cylinder reicivoir is filled with DOT-3
brakQ fluid. See £iigf.rie
Comparlment Oifervfew
on

for the localion
oi
the reservgir.
ThEre
are only two reasons why the brake
fluid
level
in
the reservoir might go
down.
The first is that the
brake fluid goes down to an acceptable level during
normal brake lining wear. When new linmgs are put in,
the Iluid level goes back up. The other reason la
that fluid is leaking out of the brake system. If il is, you
should have your brake system fixed, since a leak
means that sooner or later your brakes won't work wellf
or won't work at all.
So, it isnT a good idea to Top ofT your brake fluid.
Adding brake Huld won't corract □ Eeak- it you add Hu id
whan your linings are worn, then you'll have too
much Hu id when you gel new hrako linings. You should
add [or ramovo) brake fluid, as necessary, only when
work ia done cun the brake hydraulic system.
It you have loo much brake fluid. It can spill on
the engine. The fluid wilt burn if the engine is
hot enough. You or othera could be burned,
and your vehicle cauid be damaged. Add brake
fluid only when work fs done on the brake
hydraulic system. See “Checking Brake Fluid”
In this section.
Refer to the Maintenance Schedule to determine when
to check your brake HuJd. See
