decrease stopping distance. If you get too close to the
vehicle in liont of you, you won'l have lime to apply
your brakes it 1ha( vehicle suddenly slows or stops.

though you have anti'lock brakes.

Using Anti-Lock

Don't pump the brakes. Jusi hold the brake pedal down

firmly and let anthlock work for you^ Vou may feel

tlme^ In many emergencies, steering can hetp you more

than even the very best braking.

Traction Assist System (TAS)

Your vehicle may have a Traction Assist System {TAS)
thal limits wheel spin. This is aspecially useful in
slippery road conditions. The system operates only if It
senses thal one or boih ot tho fear wheels arc
spinning or beginning to lose trad ion. When this

happens, the system reduces engine power to limit

wheel spin,

The Traction Assist Systemi may operate on dry roads

under some conditions. When Ibis happens, you

may notice a reduction in acceleration. This is normal

Examples of Ihase condifiong ir>clude a hard

acceleration in a lurn, an abrupt upshift or downshift of
the tiansmission or driving on rough roads.

If your vehicle is m cruise control when the TAS begins

to limit wheal spin, the enjisa control will aulomalically
disengage. When road conditions alluw you to safuly
usa it again, you may re*engage Ihe cruise control. See
