How to Check
Because this operation can be a littla iiFilicull, you may

here, nr ynu couid get a false reading on the dipstick.
Notice: Too much or too liitte fluid can damage
your trsnemission. Too much can mean Ibat some
of the fluid could come out and fall on hot engine
pari or exhaust system partSn starting a fjre.
Too Irttle fluid could cause the transmission to
overheat. Be sure to gel an accurate reading if you
check your transrnj^sion fluid.
Wait at (east 30 minutes before checking thg
transmission fluid level rf you have been drivings
• When oulsiöe Temperatures are above Э0Т (32X).
• AT high speed for quite a iwhile.
• In heavy traffic-espedally in hot wealher.
• White pulling a trgitgr.
To get the right reading, (he fluid should be at namial
operating temparafLire, which is IBCr^F to SOO'^F
[&2^C to &3^C),
Get the vehicle waririecT up by driving about
15 rriles [24 kmj when outside tgrrperaturgs are above
SO^F [lO^C). If irs coldef Ifian 50^F (10X), dnve Ihe
vehicle m THIRD [3J until the engine temporalurs gage
moves and then remains steady for 10 minutes
A cold fluid check can be made after the vehicle has
been silting for eight hours or more iwilh' the engine oM,
but this Is used only as a rEtorence. Let the gngino
run at idle for five niinutes if oulside lemperalures are
SO'^F
or rTrOre. If it's colder Than 50''F (1D''G),
you may have to idle the engine longer. Should Ihe fluid
level be low during this cotd chECh, you musf check
ihg fluid hot before adding fluid. Checking the fluid hot
will give you a more accurate reading of the tlurd lavel.
Checking the Fluid Level
Prepare your vehicle as foJfows:
• Park your vehiclQ on a level place, Keep (ha engine
running.
• With the parking brake applied, place the shift lever
in PARK{Py
• Wilh your fooi on the brake pedal, move 1he shih
lever through each gear range, pausing for about
Ihrfic seconds in each range. Then, position the shift
lever In PARK (P).
• Let the engine run ai idle for three minutes or more,
