When you approach a hill^ you need to decide it il's one
of those hills that’s just too stgep to climbs descend
or СГ0Й5. Steepness can he tiard to judge^ On a very
small hill, for ejiample, there may be a smooth, constant
incline ih/ilh only и smatl change in elevation inhere
you can easily see all the way lo the top. On a large hill,
the incline may get steeper as you near Ihe top, bul
yo(j may nol see this because the crest of tha hell
is hidden by bushes, grass or shrubs.
Here are some other things to consider as you
approach a htll.

Approaching a Hill
Once you docidp you can safely drive up the hill, you
need lo lake some special steps.
* Use a low gear and gat a tirm grip on the steenng
wheel
* Get a smoolh start up the hill and try to mainlain
your speed. Don't use mane power Ihan you
need, because you don't want your wheels lo start
spinn^ng or sliding,

tha path twists and turns, you might want to find
another roule.
Driving Uphill
Turning or driving across steep hills can be
dangerous. 'Vau could lose traction, slide
sideways, and possibly roll over. You could be
seriously injured or killed- When driving up
hills, always try to go straight up.
