(2) 132 column support requires modification to all cursor positioning and status line positioning
sequences in addition to the Mod size change. Some terminals may not be able to support 27
or 28 rows, and may result in undesired results.
(3) Extended Highlighting includes: blink, reverse video, and underscore
Defining Unsupported ASCII Devices
ASCII devices which are not listed above can be supported by defining them to LINCS with
the ASCII Definition Utility (ADU). See the section about ADU for more information.
Security
LINCS can maintain a list of authorized users who are required to enter password and userid
information to gain access to system resources.
LINCS can provide call-back capabilities in order to reverse charges, as well as protecting
against unauthorized dial in users. This dialback feature provides security for lines attached
through a modem to switched phone lines. To enable this feature, simply add a telephone
number next to the userID and password on the dial panel. See Dial Panels in Chapter 5,
for additional information about using ASCII terminals to dial out over a modem attached
to LINCS.
ASCII Printers
All display stations attached to LINCS can perform local screen prints to a printer attached to
either an IBM 3472-type (ASCII) display station or to another ASCII printer, if allowed by the
Device Profile used by the display. LINCS uses the session configured on that device’s profile.
The following ASCII display stations support a printer for both local screen printing and host
addressable printing:
• ADDs Viewpoint A2, 78
• DEC VT100, VT200, VT300, VT52
• IBM 3151, 3161, 3162, 3163, 3101, 3151 and 3164
• IBM File Transfer and Terminal Emulator Program (FTTERM), color and monochrome
• Lear Siegler ADM 11, ADM 12, 1178, 3A
• TeleVideo 970, 912, 950
• Wyse 60, 50
• Hazeltine 1500
• Esprit 1078
Note: If a printer is connected to an ASCII display station, and the printer is turned off, no
print operation is performed. LINCS does not send a message to the display station requesting
a local screen print to tell you that the printer is turned off.
LU1 Protocol Enveloping
The LU1 Protocol Enveloping feature allows LINCS to exchange data between a 3270 host
and an ASCII device configured as a printer.
LU1 Outbound 3270 host data: The outbound LU1 data stream from a 3270 host is translated
from EBCDIC to ASCII and sent to the ASCII printer. When the session is in protocol enveloping
