Multiple Hosts

LINCS supports up to sixteen simultaneous host connections, which can be either logical or
physical. For physical connections, additional host circuits can be added by adding additional
lines (up to the maximum of 16). LINCS supports the concurrent use of different protocols;
any combination of:

BSC, Local/SNA, Local/Non-SNA, Frame Relay, SDLC/SNA, Ethernet/SNA, Token Ring/
SNA, TN3270 Client, X.25/SNA, Ethernet/TELNET, and Ethernet/LAT is supported.

For logical connections, up to sixteen multiple host circuits can be accessed on a single line.
For example: sixteen BSC host circuits can be accessed on a single BSC line. This configuration
supports up to 512 logical units, because each of the sixteen BSC host circuits supports only
32 logical units. This permits BSC to operate more effectively under MLS.

Devices attached to a LINCS node are able to jump between ten different host sessions by
using the Multiple Logical Sessions (MLS) feature and the Jump key. The configuration
procedure determines which sessions can be used for MLS host switching.

The example shows one of many possible configurations for a LINCS node. LINCS can support
up to 16 hosts (Hosts A through P) on eight lines (Lines 0 through 7). Figure 2-3 shows the
following support:

• Seven hosts connected to six lines

• One host attached to a Local/SNA line
