Vital Product Data Customization

The VPD Customization Data object contains user-defined node and port Vital Product Data.
The information which is defined is used to build a Product Set Identification which is
transmitted to a 3270 host upon request. Information about naming and managing this object
are detailed in the list below:

Data Object Canonical Name - The VPD data object canonical name is built using the

VPD ID defined using the Vital Product Data utilities in Central Control mode. The canonical
name has the following format:

MCUST.1174.NA.NA.NA.VPD.dobjname

• Data Object Source - This data object is defined and stored on the System disk using the

Display/Update LINCS VPD and/or the Display/Update Port VPD utilities, which are on
the Vital Product Data Menu in Central Control mode.

• Data Object Destination - The destination of the VPD data object is a System disk at the

receiving node.

• Distributing the Data Object - It usually is not necessary to distribute the VPD data object,

since the information in the data object is specific to the location of the LINCS node and it’s
devices. If you wish to control this type of information at a Central Site, then you can
distribute the VPD data object(s) as follows:

1.

Use the Display/Update LINCS VPD and or the Display/Update Port VPD utilities to
define Vital Product data for a LINCS node and it’s attached devices.

2.

Build a NetView DM transmission plan to distribute the VPD data object to a
Network Site.

3.

If distributing VPD data to more than one site, copy the VPD data object to a floppy
(for backup purposes) and repeat steps 1 and 2 as many times as necessary to define
the VPD for all Network sites.

Windowing Customization

The Windowing (WIN) data object contains data that defines windowing profiles. For more
details, refer to the section titled Windowing. Also, refer to the Display/Update Windowing
Setup utility, which is on the Customization Data Menu in Central Control mode. Information
about naming and managing this object are detailed in the list below:

Data Object Canonical Name - The Windowing data object canonical name is based on the

Windowing ID defined using the Windowing Setup utility in Central Control mode. It has
the following format:

MCUST.1174.NA.NA.NA.WIN.dobjname

• Data Object Source - This data object is defined using Work Station Control mode to

define and save windowing profiles for your port. An authorized user may then use the
Windowing Setup utility to create System Profiles. The windowing data is saved to the
System disk.

• Data Object Destination - The destination of the WIN data object the a System disk at the

receiving node.

• Distributing the Data Object - The windowing data object may be distributed if you wish

to create and maintain the profiles for all users locally. This would make sense if most of
