LINCS Features

707021-001

require the PC to act as a DSN controller. LANSYS provides the bottom 5 layers of the OSI
reference model and will work with 16/4 Mbps Token Ring or Ethernet. LANSYS support
may be added in increments of 8, up to the maximum quantity. LANSYS feature software
performs the following tasks:

• Locates each Token Ring LAN terminal and uses configuration information to establish a

circuit with the terminal over the LAN

• Emulates coax functions using a proprietary MTX protocol

• Provides all features that are available to a CUT mode coax display

LAT Display

LAN-attached LAT Client support emulates directly attached ASCII devices, enabling the
clients to access any type of host connected to LINCS. LINCS can provide LAT clients
(workstations) with 3270 sessions by being a named LAT service on the network. All the
features available to CUT-type devices are available to the LAT client.

TELNET Display

TELNET clients can connect to a LINCS node, enabling users to access any type of
host connected to LINCS. All features available to CUT-type devices are available to
the ASCII display.

LINCS supports RFC854, RFC855, RFC856, RFC857, RFC859, RFC860, RFC885, RFC1091,
RFC1116 and RFC1700.

LPD Printer

LINCS provides an RFC1179 compliant print requester for sending LU1, LU3 and local
print requests to printers which are attached to a TCP/IP network. This feature can help to
consolidate costly print resources. The LPD protocol requires a client and server relationship
that utilizes TCP/IP. The client is considered the LPR. The server provides the print services
and is called the LPD. When the LPR requires print services, it will initiate a TCP connection
with the LPD.

Configuration and Management

Configuration - LINCS LPR client needs to know what remote LPD printers are available for
printing. You must define a TCP/IP line to the LAN that has the LDP printers, and define the
LDP printers to LINCS on the Network Device Definition panel(s) during configuration.

TCP Printer

LINCS provides a TCP/IP raw socket print server that can direct network print requests to
directly connected print resources. Prints can be directed to either coax or ASYNC ASCII
printers. This feature can help to consolidate costly print resources. Multiple LAN devices on
each LAN line are supported, all or some of which may be TCP printers. The number of TCP
printers that can be configured is also limited by the maximum number of LAN connections
per line. Each TCP Printer will be assigned an IP address and a TCP Port, in order to assign its
TCP print server.
