Central Site Management
Central Site Change Management (CSCM), in conjunction with NetView DM, provides the
ability to electronically distribute microcode and customization data to LINCS nodes in an
SNA network. The distribution of data is controlled from NetView DM. NetView DM Version
1, Release 2 or higher, may be installed on any IBM processor capable of operating with
MVS, ACF/VTAM, or ACF/TCAM.
When using CSCM to distribute data objects, a single LINCS node in the Network should be
designated as the Central Site. The Central Site node uses the Central Site Customization
feature to maintain the configuration data objects for other nodes in the network. Using the
NetView DM functions, microcode and customization data is retrieved from the Central Site,
stored in the NetView DM resource repository, and then distributed from the resource repository
to the Network Sites.
Configuration and Management
Configuration - The following Configuration utilities enable the Central Site Change
Management feature:
• An SNA Host Circuit must be defined, in order to use the Central Site Change Management
feature. Refer to the Configuration and Management section for 3270 Host Connectivity
for details of configuring Host Circuits.
• The SNA Options is used to configure a Network ID and LU Name, which are required for
the CSCM feature. Refer to the Central Site Options panel for further details.
• A LINCS node is designated as a Central Site by enabling the Central Site Customization
(CSC) feature on the General Options panel. If CSC is not enabled, the node will be treated
as a Network Site.
Management - The Display/Update Disk Information utility on the Media Management Menu
in Central Control Mode lists the data object canonical names for all data objects residing on
LINCS disks. This is useful when writing NetView DM transmission plans to retrieve the
objects.
During CSCM processing status codes may be reported in a variety of ways:
• Informational messages will be displayed on the operator control panel. These messages
are formatted as:
CSCM f obj
where “f” is the CSCM function:
R = read
W = write
D = delete/remove
I = install
A = accept
and “obj” represents the data object the function is being performed on.
