Configuration and Management
Configuration - A TCP printer supports multiple logical sessions. Host and LU assignments
to a TCP printer are made in the same manner as any other device. A TCP printer has the same
characteristics of as any other ASCII printer, thus, the device profiles do not require any changes
to describe a TCP printer. Assigning device profiles to TCP printers will be done in the same
manner as any other device.
Direct Devices
Direct Devices are CUT or DFT devices that are directly attached to the LINCS node. The
devices may be coax attached, or asynchronously attached displays and printers. LINCS supports
the following direct devices:
Coax Devices
An MCC (Multiplexed Coax controller) card is required for coax device attachment. MCC
cards may be installed in an 1174 for a total of up to 128 coax devices depending upon the
model. The coax attached devices can be any combination of 3270 CUT displays, printers, or
Distributed Function Terminals (DFTs). See the section “CUT Device Features” for details
about support for CUT devices. DFT device support is further described in a separate section
titled “DFT Device Support”.
Configuration and Management
Configuration - The following configuration utilities define coax devices. The “Direct Device
Menu” in Configuration may be used to guide you through these utilities.
• The Product Definition panel defines the number of Coax ports present.
• The Coax Multiplexing panel defines special connectors for MCC boards, and enables
Dynamic Multiplexing.
• Refer to the Configuration and Management section under “CUT Device Support” for
configuration utilities common to all LINCS devices.
Management - The Device Menu in Central Control mode help manage your LINCS devices.
Dynamic Multiplexing
The dynamic multiplexing feature allows a coax mux to be attached to any coax port, on
the MCC or on any CDA board installed in your LINCS node. The physical port may be
assigned from zero to eight logical ports on the Dynamic Multiplexing Assignments panel
in configuration. This allows for greater flexibility of distribution of devices within the
work area.
Asynchronous (ASCII) Devices
An AIC (ASCII Interface Controller) plus ADAs (ASCII Device Adapters) are required for
ASCII device attachment. Depending on the model and hardware configuration, a total of up
to 32 ASCII devices can be defined. The ASCII device ports may be configured for ASCII
display, printer, or host attachment in any combination.
