TN3287 Server
An extension of TN3270 Client Support, TN3287 Client Support provides access for printers
attached over a TCP/IP network. LINCS provides LU1 and LU3 printing, compliant with
RFC1646, using LU name and printer selection. The TN3287 server software feature, for
LINCS with the TN3270 software expansion FAD, consists of an extension of the current
TN3270 server feature to allow a TELNET client attached via Ethernet or Token Ring to
receive LU1/LU3 print data.
This feature will operate similarly to the TN3270 server feature with the following differences:
Additions:
• An additional TELNET terminal type, IBM-3287-1, will be accepted by the server.
• The terminal type response may include an optional alphanumeric string specifying a host
class or host and LU.
• The protocol assumes that the client supports LU1 and LU3 data streams, and requires the
server to identify each outbound RU (or LU1 chain) as LU1 or LU3 data.
• The protocol requires the server to notify the client when End Bracket has occurred.
• The client will be required to return status information to the server.
Constraints:
• The client is responsible for ensuring that it is requesting an LU “genned” as a printer. The
server will allow it to claim any available LU. The bind will be rejected if it is inappropriate.
• There are no configuration changes required, but currently allowed TN client definitions
will be interpreted slightly differently for a TN3287 connection.
• This feature fully supports TN3270 Extensions for LU name and Printer. The TN3287
client must be a TELNET client attached to the LINCS TELNET server via Ethernet/Token
Ring.
TN3278 Configuration and Management
The information for configuring and managing TN3287 Server is the same as for the TN3270
Server. The only difference is that the LUs must be configured for printers on the host.
