• A Link Profile should be defined for each protocol you will be using to access your 3270
hosts. Link profiles are used to define link parameters that may be shared by any or all of
your Host Circuits. A single profile may be assigned to all host circuits with the same
protocol, thus eliminating the need to configure this link type information for each host.
• 3270 Host Profiles define characteristics of the 3270 Host Sessions. In most cases, a single
profile may be assigned to all host circuits, eliminating the need to configure this host type
information for each host.
• A 3270 Host Circuit must be defined for each 3270 Host you will be accessing. A line, link
profile, and host profile will be assigned to each host circuit you define. The Host Circuit
panel is also used to define unique information for each host such as addressing information.
• 3270 Host Classes may be defined, if desired. Classes provide a mechanism for “pooling”
LUs. This is especially useful when the number of available LUs is limited, or when pools
of LUs are needed by IPX SNA Clients and TN3270 Clients. Defining classes also provides
a user-friendly and secure method of allowing dynamic connections to 3270 Hosts. Multiple
3270 Host Classes can share a common class name thereby collapsing LUs from multiple
hosts into a single host class. This is useful when a user desires connection to one of several
3270 hosts, but doesn’t necessarily care which 3270 host is chosen.
• The Device Profiles and/or the Device Profile Assignments panels assign 3270 Hosts and
3270 LUs to sessions on LINCS Network and Direct Devices.
Refer to the following sections if LUs will be assigned to devices other than LINCS Network
and Direct devices.
• LU to PU Mapping – LUs may be assigned to DSPUs.
• IPX SNA Server – LUs may be assigned to IPX SNA Clients
• TN3270 Server – LUs may be assigned to TN3270 Clients.
• TN3287 Server – LUs may be assigned to TN3287 Clients.
Management – The Display/Update 3270 LU Connections utility displays all configured
3270 LUs, and shows the device that owns the LU. 3270 LUs may be owned by LINCS
Devices (Network and Direct), Downstream Nodes using LU to PU Mapping, TN3270 Clients,
or SAA Clients. This utility displays appropriate information to indicate the particular device
type which currently owns the LUs. The LUs may also be disconnected using this utility.
The Event Log Menu is used to determine if abnormal events have occurred for a particular
host or LU.
