You can also put specific entries into LINCS’ Static IP Routing panel to inform LINCS
of where to forward packets to, when configuring a single default router is not the
preferred solution.

Routing over Point-to-Point Lines

It is not necessary to run WAN connections over a real Frame Relay network, in order for
LINCS to support IP traffic. LINCS allows you to route over point-to-point lines by configuring
a LINCS platform on one end of the link to emulate a Frame Relay switch and the other end of
the link as a normal Frame Relay user. LINCS will use Frame Relay as the transport protocol
for both IP and SNA traffic. When configured for point-to-point connections, you can use
standard modems, and whatever link speed that you have.

When configuring for this scenario, you must match LMI methods and DLCI numbers on both
ends of the link.

Configuration and Management

Configuration: The following configuration panels are used to enable IP Routing:

• Line Options - Enable IP protocol on the desired lines. For each line with IP enabled, the

next panel to configure is the Line Options - TCP/IP Options panel, where you can define
additional parameters for IP on that line.

• Static IP Routing - allows you to define static entries into the routing table.

Resource Requirements: The IP Routing feature of LINCS does not require any additional
feature memory or hardware beyond what is in the hardware platform. If you wish to set up a
WAN connection for IP Routing, you will need to use the HSC card to provide the synchronous
serial connection, and you will need to have the Frame Relay feature activation diskette installed,
even if you are configuring a point-to-point line, since LINCS uses the Frame Relay protocol
to move IP data over the wide area.

Management: The IP Menu in Central Control Mode is used to gather information and statistics
about your IP links. An IP Routing submenu reached through the IP Menu allows you to reset
the IP Router if needed, and to view the IP routing tables.
