LINCS Features

IPX Options: This utility contains global IPX SAA Server Options that must be defined

for the IPX SNA Server feature.

Management - The following Central Control Mode utilities are available:

• The IPX Menu contains utilities that are helpful in determining the status of your

IPX network.

• The “Display/Update 3270 LU Connections” utility on the Device Menu displays all the

configured 3270 LUs, and indicates whether or not the LUs are owned by the IPX SNA
Clients. The LUs may be disconnected using this utility.

Configuring the SNA Server’s Client

The following list explains the configuration options of the DOS and Windows versions of
Novell’s emulator products as they apply to this feature. Other emulator packages may have
slightly different formats for supplying the necessary configuration information.

User Name/ID - The user name/ID field will be ignored. Any value may be entered.

User Password - The user password field will be ignored. Any value may be entered.

Server Name - The server name must match the Netware Comm Server name configured

in LINCS. Note that the server name is case sensitive.

Service Name - The service name must either match a 3270 Host ID or be wildcarded by

specifying an asterisk. If the service name is wildcarded, the LU may be allocated from any
3270 host.

LU Category - The LU category should be set to:

• An LU Pool Name - When the LU category is pooled, the pool name should match that

of a 3270 Host Class configured in LINCS. If Pooled is selected, a LU will be chosen
from the least busy SNA host in the indicated class.

• A LU Dedicated Name - When the LU category is dedicated, the dedicated LU name

should specified as a decimal value. Note that the specified LU must either be assigned
to a device or belong to a 3270 Host Class. If the Service Name is a 3270 Host ID, the LU
will be chosen from the indicated host. If the service name wildcarded, the LU will be
chosen from the least busy SNA host with the LU available.

Any - Either dedicated or pooled.

• Session Screen Size - The Session Screen Size (MOD 2, 3, 4 or 5) should match the screen

type configured for the LU (pooled or dedicated). Since LINCS is not configured with
information regarding screen size, there is no means for verifying the screen size specified.

IPX LU Nickname File

The nickname.sys file is an ASCII text file that can be created for the purpose of mapping
resources named by the customer to named resources that LINCS can recognize. The
nickname.sys file also supports the TN3270 Server feature. For specifics about its usage in
conjunction with TN3270, refer to the section entitled TN3270 LU Nickname File.

User-defined names can be associated with LINCS LU resources with this file, allowing the
client to be configured with meaningful resource names. For example, the named resource
may be chosen to match the VTAM LU name, found in the host gen. The name is passed to
LINCS as the resource name whenever the client is configured for Dedicated LUs or Pooled
(Group) LUs.
