acter screen at one time.

The RS-232 serial data signals from the Sd-50/xxʼs are brought out on a 1/8” three conductor ‘stereo’ socket. Its pin

out and cross connect to the standard serial port on a PC is as follows:

The mnemonic for remembering the connections are: Ring = Receive, and Tip = Transmit.

If you have hooked up the Sd-50/xx to your computer and it still doesn't seem to respond to the keyboard, the first thing

to check is that you are attached to the right serial port. The easiest way to do this is to disconnect the Sd-50/xx and short
between the Tx data out and Rx data in pins on the serial port connector on the back of your computer. On all IBMs and
compatibles this means sticking a piece of wire, paper clip, or similar tool between pins 2 and 3 on the 'Com.' connector.
While still running the modem program, anything you type should be shown on the screen while this paper clip is in place,
while nothing will appear when you remove it. If your computer passes this test, then you are using the right serial port and
the problem is most likely the baud rate setting or in your wiring to the Sd-50/xx. If you get characters on the screen even
with the paper clip removed from the serial port, it means you probably need to set the 'echo' mode to 'none' or 'full duplex'
and try this test again.

The Sd-50/xx is normally accessed through its RS-232 serial port. A configuration option available through the ‘Mp3

Config.exe’ program takes over the

DMX-512/MIDI serial port

to use it as a RS-422 receive-only serial port. This is called

Net Serial

’ mode. Selection this option disables

DMX-512 in

,

MIDI in

, and

IR Trigger Mode

in. Up to 256 different cards and

devices can be attached to the same serial lines, to form a RS-422 ‘multi Drop’ network. You can attach operator panels
anywhere on this network to access and control it, or you can use a telephone or Internet modem so that it can be accessed
from around the block or around the world. Commands can be addressed to a single card on the network, or all the cards
simultaneously. When in ‘Net Serial’ mode, any serial responses from the Sd-50/xx will be sent out through the normal RS-
232 serial port. You will not get responses on the DMX-512 out terminals.

Entering Serial Configuration

To enter the serial configuration mode you need to type the following. The (address) is replaced by the ‘Serial

Address’ set in the ‘Mp3 Config.exe’ program (normally this is ‘00’):

m5AA5(Card Address)

If using GilderTerm, you simply press the ‘Enter Configuration’ button. GilderTerm will send the string needed

to enter configuration for you.

If any other card is in configuration mode (or even if it just thinks another card is in configuration), the Sd-50/xx

won't be able to enter configuration mode. To exit any other card from configuration type 'XN'. You can then try en-
tering configuration again.

When you enter configuration the Sd-50/xx will display the following screen:

Gilderfluke & Co.• 205 South Flower Street • Burbank, California 91502 • 818/840-9484 • 800/776-5972 • fax 818/840-9485
