Locking Your Data
The Secure Digital flash cards used on the Sd-50/0, Sd-50/8 or Sd-50/40 feature a small switch on
their side which discourage changing files on the flash card. This switch does not physically protect the
data on the flash card, but does dissuade most card reader/writers from writing when the switch is in the
‘locked’ position. The Sd-50/0, Sd-50/8 or Sd-50/40 players themselves never write to the Sd/MMC flash
card. They don’t even contain the software needed to write to an Sd flash card.
A locked Sd card is indicated on the
or
of the Sd-50/0, Sd-50/8 or Sd-50/40.
The work ‘locked’ will appear at the end of the line that tells about the sound files that are loaded on the
Sd card.
MultiMedia Cards (MMC) do not have the write protect switches on them, and cannot be ‘locked’.
The internal flash memory on the Sd-50/0, Sd-50/8 or Sd-50/40 can also be protected against
changes. When ‘locked’, the show files, schedule and GPS files can not be erased or changed.
There are two ways to protect the onboard flash memory on a Sd-50/0, Sd-50/8 or Sd-50/40:
1) When a Secure Digital (Sd) card is inserted in a Sd-50/0, Sd-50/8 or Sd-50/40, it checks the condition of
the ‘lock’ switch. If the Sd flash card is locked, then the internal flash memory on the a Sd-50/0, Sd-50/8 or
Sd-50/40 is locked as well. When this switch is in the locked position, you will see this indicated on the
‘status’ report
or
of the Sd-50/0, Sd-50/8 or Sd-50/40. The work ‘locked’ will appear after the
size of the flash memory is displayed, and at the end of the line that tells about the sound files that are
loaded on the Sd card.
2) The onboard flash memory of a Sd-50/0, Sd-50/8 or Sd-50/40 can also be protected against changes by
checking the ‘
’ tab in the ‘Mp3
Config.exe’ program. This will not affect the Sd/MMC flash card that is inserted in the Sd-50/0, Sd-50/8 or
Sd-50/40. The work ‘locked’ will appear after the size of the flash memory is displayed, but not on the
‘sound’ line.
Both write protection features can be engaged at the same time. To enable writing to the onboard flash
memory, both will need to be set back to the ‘writable’, unlocked conditions.
