Battery Replacement on a Sd-50/8 or Sd-50/40
(Sd-50/8 or Sd-50/40)
A small lithium battery keeps the internal Real Time Clock chip running, even when the Sd-50/8 or Sd-
50/40 is powered down for months. When plugged in, the battery is unused. If the Sd-50/8 or Sd-50/40 is
left unpowered for an extended period of time, it will discharge the battery, and the battery may need to be
replaced.
If you are not using the Real Time Clock for scheduling when shows and sounds play, it does not mat-
ter if the battery dies. It is not being used anyway. It just means that the time will be incorrect if you ever
look at the
or request the
from the Sd-50/8 or Sd-50/40.
To replace the battery:
1) Power down the Sd-50/xx.
2) Remove the Sd/MMC flash card from the Sd-50/8 or Sd-50/40.
3) Unscrew the two 4-40 x $” screws that hold the connector paddleboard in place.
4) Remove the paddleboard.
5) Lift the paddleboard end of the upper part of the case straight up away from the bottom of the unit. Do not
separate the parts too far. You are just unplugging the connectors that go between the top and bottom of
the Sd-50/xx.
6) When the connectors that go between the top and bottom of the Sd-50/xx disengage, slide the top of the
case forward towards the Sd/MMC flash card end of the player. This releases them from the RS-232 and
RTC connectors where they pass through the case top.
7) Once the RS-232 and RTC connectors are free from the case top, you can separate the top from the bot-
tom of the Sd-50/8 or Sd-50/40 completely.
8) The battery is now exposed on the bottom of the top piece. The battery is either one or two BR1225s,
which are 12.5 mm diameter, Lithium coin cells rated at 3.0 volts at 48 mAh or a pair of CR2032 Lithium
coin cells rated at 3v for 225mAh.
Once the batteries are replaced, the Sd-50/xx is reassembled in the reverse order from which it was
disassembled:
1) Keep the top and bottom pieces slightly separated at the paddle board end of the case. Slide the case top
over the front of the RS-232 and RTC connectors at the Sd/MMC end of the Sd-50/xx.
2) Close the case at the paddleboard end to plug together the connectors that go between the top and bottom
of the Sd-50/xx. Make sure that all of the pins engage on these two connectors. A pin which misses its
mark will cause the Sd-50/xx to not work properly.
3) Plug the paddleboard into the unit.
4) Screw in the two 4-40 x $” screws that hold the connector paddleboard in place.
The same disassembly instructions should be followed if any of the socked chips inside the Sd-50/xx
should ever need to be replaced.
