To create a proper Virtual Connect fabric, all VC-FC uplinks that are included in the fabric must be connected
to the same physical SAN fabric. If the fabric uplinks are not connected to the same SAN fabric, then the
fabric becomes degraded and a log message indicates that the uplinks are connected to different SAN
switches. The WWN of the principal fabric switch indicates connectivity to the same SAN fabric in Virtual
Connect.
The VC-FC module uses dynamic login distribution to provide the following:
•
Load balancing as new server HBA logins are completed through the uplink port with the least amount
of active logins
•
A failover path if an uplink becomes unusable

Define SAN Fabric screen
To define a SAN fabric, select the Define SAN Fabric link on the home page, click Define SAN Fabric on the
SAN Fabrics (Server Connections) ("

" on page
) screen, or
select SAN Fabric from the Define pull-down menu.
Only connect HP VC 4Gb FC module, HP VC 8Gb 24-Port FC module, HP VC 8Gb 20-Port FC module, or
FlexFabric FC uplinks to Fibre Channel switch ports that are NPIV-enabled.
