Changing the Control Mode and Output Power
The CPC400 has four control modes:
•
Auto: The controller automatically adjusts the output
power according to the set point, process variable and
other control parameters.
•
Manual: The operator sets the output power level.
•
Tune: The controller calculates the best PID settings
for optimum control. For more information, see
tuning on page 62. This mode has no effect with on/off
control.
•
Adapt: The controller automatically adjusts the out-
put power as with Auto mode, and it updates the con-
trol parameters as needed to keep the tuning
optimized. This mode has no effect with on/off control.
To change the control mode and output power level, start at
the loop display and do the following:
1.
Press p to choose the appropriate loop.
2.
Press . twice. The Mode parameter should appear. (If
nothing happens, the keypad may be locked; see Key-
pad Lock on page 101).
NOTE!
If the heat and cool outputs are disabled on this
loop, the Mode parameter is not available. In-
stead, this message appears:

Press > or < to choose a control mode.
4.
Press . to save the new value, or press x to cancel the
change.
5.
If you chose manual mode, then the next parameter is
the Heat output or Cool output parameter. Use these
parameters to set the heat and cool output power lev-
els, then press . to save.
6.
You should be back at the loop display. The control
mode is shown on the second line of the loop display;
see Table 3.1 on page 50.
