Using Configuration Manager

Types of files
You can work with three types of files in Configuration Manager. Each file is
identified by one of the file name extensions described in the following table:
File name
File type
When it is created and used
event.dat
Log file
The log (event.dat) file records all activities (and
messages associated with those activities) that
you perform while running Configuration
Manager, such as:
!
logging on to Configuration Manager
!
logging on to a unit (by serial or Telnet
connection)
!
logging off of the unit
!
performing configuration changes
!
performing firmware upgrades
This file can be very useful when troubleshooting
system problems. Technical support personnel
may ask for this file.
Note: Information is appended to this file each
time you start a new Configuration Manager
session.
*.txt
Text
The text (.txt) file is created when you do one of
the following:
!
Click on the Save to File button while running
the Configuration Wizard.
!
Choose File
→
Save As from the Menu Bar
while working in Configuration Manager.
!
Choose Upload/Download
→
Download
Configuration from the Menu Bar to save a
unit’s configuration in a text file on the
administration PC.
