Test the UIM-SAN-GEIP functionality
3. If the host fails to reply, check the network settings on the target system, and all
Ethernet cable connections.
Perform Quick-Check procedures
Use the quick-check procedures in the following table to help determine why the
UIM-SAN-GEIP does not have access to the V: drive.
Test the UIM-SAN-GEIP functionality
To test the setup, you can stream media to/from the Open SAN system using FTP or
a transfer application. You can use Profile XP Media Manager to transfer files
between Profile storage, i.e. standalone or another Open SAN shared storage system.
Refer to the Profile XP Users Manual for instructions on using Media Manager.
To transfer the test file to shared storage:
1. To perform and ftp test, refer to
“Step 7: FTP a file using the 1000BT interface
connected to the streaming LAN” on page 119
2. If the transfer request fails, use
“Check network connections and hosts file name
to test for basic Ethernet connectivity and name resolution
on the UIM-SAN-GEIP. This is a common setup problem and can prevent media
transfers.
Create UIM-SAN-GEIP system disk image
After verifying proper installation, you should create a backup image of the
UIM-SAN-GEIP system disk. You can use this disk image to restore the complete
software on the system disk, including all the current system settings. This simplifies
the process of troubleshooting and correcting software faults. To proceed, refer to
“Creating a system disk image” on page 126
.
Quick-check steps
Possible problems
Corrective action
A. On the UIM-SAN-GEIP
system, open Windows Explorer
and check that drive “V” is listed
as a mapped network drive.
There is a long delay
before drives are
displayed, then drive “V”
is not displayed in the
drive list.
Make sure the client file system
client software is configured
properly. Refer to
Client software on the
UIM-SAN-GEIP” on page 73
to
check your configuration.
B. On the Open SAN FSM, view
the file system client license info
by opening the file
C:\MediaAreaNetwork\config\lic
ense.dat.
CVFS client licenses for
one or more
UIM-SAN-GEIPs is not
installed.
Install the missing client license(s)
on the FSM. Refer to
UIM-SAN-GEIP CVFS Client
Software” on page 71
.
C. On the UIM-SAN-GEIP,
check that all shared storage
LUNs are displayed in the disk
list. Perform step 1 of
CVFS client software on the
UIM-SAN-GEIP” on page 67
.
One or more RAID-3
LUNs are not displayed in
the connected devices list.
Recheck all Fibre Channel
connections. Also, check that other
devices on the SAN have access to
the RAID-3 LUNs. If not, refer to
MAN troubleshooting information in
the MAN Instruction Manual,
otherwise, refer to
.
