Chapter 6 Service Information
Step 6: Use the “ping” utility to test Ethernet connectivity
Use the following steps to test Ethernet connectivity to the Profile system.
On the UIM, do the following:
1. On the UIM, right-click the My Network Places desktop icon, then select
Properties
to open the Network Connections dialog box.
2. One at a time, right click each Ethernet adapter team (Control/Streaming), then
select
Status
.
3. Check that status of each adapter is Connected. If not, check cabling and/or the
Ethernet switch. If this does not correct the connection problem, you may have an
Ethernet NIC hardware problem. You can use of the diagnostics tools that come
with the Ethernet adapter software. If you still cannot establish an Ethernet
hardware connection, call Grass Valley Product Support.
4. At the Windows command prompt, ping the Profile system by host name. Both the
command and control and the media network adapter names are shown here.
Examples:
ping XP1_he0
ping XP1
5. If there is no reply, do the following:
a. Note the IP address reported by the ping utility.
b. On the Profile, use Windows Network Settings to check the IP address setting
of the Profile Ethernet adapter.
c. Correct the settings if needed, then test again.
d. Do one of the following:
- If you cannot establish an Ethernet connection, contact Grass Valley Product
Support.

- If the Ethernet connections to the Profile systems are made, then, continue to
“Step 7: Check Ethernet switch status”

Step 7: Check Ethernet switch status
The Intel PROSet software used with the Ethernet adapters contains a useful switch
diagnostic to test switch settings. This is especially useful in testing redundant
Ethernet topologies.
To test the switch:
1. On the UIM, right-click the My Network Places desktop icon, then select
Properties
to open the Network Connections dialog box.
2. Select one of the teams listed.
3. Click the
Team Configuration
tab.
4. Click the
Test Switch
button.
5. Read the results displayed. Correct as needed.
