Chapter 4 UIM-SAN-GEIP Installation: Grass Valley Open SAN System
Onsite planning
Use the following sections to plan the deployment of the UIM-SAN-GEIP in the
Grass Valley Open SAN Shared Storage system.
CAUTION: Do not connect the UIM-SAN-GEIP to the Fibre Channel
SCSI fabric until after you have performed
Channel adapter IP driver” on page 53
. The IP driver will cause Open
SAN record and playout to fail.
Specify host names in the Open SAN
When deploying the UIM-SAN-GEIP in an Open SAN Shared Storage system, you
must follow a strict host naming convention within the Open SAN for client
machines, including the UIM-SAN-GEIP. You must use a common prefix to name
each client machine, as shown below:
[common prefix]_ [client hostname]
For example, you could identify the Open SAN system as SAN1; you would then use
SAN1 as a prefix to name all the client machines in the shared storage system—
SAN1_XP1, SAN1_XP2, and so on. The naming convention does not need to apply to
the FSM host name, but it can for consistency.
The following diagram illustrates the naming convention. Use this as a model for
specifying host names in your Open SAN Shared Storage system.
