Purge all air from the coolant before starting the
drive with medium voltage power. Failure to do
so may result in damage to thyristors and liquid-
cooled snubber resistors. Air in the system is
indicated by a rise in the reservoir fluid level
when the pumps are shut off.
10. Once there are no longer any air bubbles visible in the system,
verify that condition by shutting off the pumps. The level in the
reservoir will not noticeably increase when the pumps are
stopped.
11. Generally, the conductivity will be at 0 after the fill process is
completed. If it is not, allow the pumps to run until the
conductivity goes to 0.
12. Fill the system to the ¾ level on the reservoir, and reset the
cooling system.
13. Close valve V10. (V10 is the thermostatic bypass valve)
14. This is now the normal operating condition, with V1, V6, V7,
and V10 closed, and V2, V3, V4, V5, V8, V9 (if provided), V11,
and V12 open.
Control Power Tests
Gating Tests
(continued)
Once the drive converters have been tested without Medium Voltage
and all the power supply output values have been verified, it is
necessary to test the SCRs and SGCTs under low voltage control
power.
The following procedures will describe how to perform the next
level of device testing:
• Gating Test Mode
• SCR Firing Test
• SGCT Firing Test
If the results of the tests are not as described in the section below,
refer to Chapter 6 – Component Definition and Maintenance, for
detailed information on how to troubleshoot problems in the
converter section of the drive.
