Table 15 Quorum Status Qualifiers (continued)
Description
Quorum Status Qualifier
A locally detected quorum-announcer status inconsistency
will typically be as a result of a transient timing issue which
will resolve quickly.
The status checks between the two systems are crucial to
ensuring that one half of the quorum cannot be primed for
peer-persistence failover before the other half of the quorum
on the partner storage system has been fully configured
and initialized.
For example, if the setrcopytarget witness stop
subcommand was issued on one system, resetting the local
quorum state to Initializing, it is then through the QA
status consistency-checking mechanism that the remote
quorum state, which was previously Started, is
immediately reset, thus preventing a scenario where one
half of the system could be primed for peer-persistence
failover without the other half being properly initialized.
Lack of updates from the remote storage system is one of
the side effects of a storage system failure, and is one of
Remote QAs not updating
the criteria evaluated when making a decision to perform
a peer-persistence failover.
A quorum cannot advance beyond the Initializing
or Re-starting state if the remote system is not updating
the quorum witness.
All operational QA processes must have connectivity to
the specified quorum witness. If one or more QA process
Not all QAs connected
is not able to connect to the quorum witness, then the
quorum will be prevented from advancing beyond the
Initializing
or Re-starting states, or the quorum
will be reset if any of the local QA processes are not
configured for the quorum.
After a peer-persistence failover, the quorum status will be
fixed as Failover until the failed system is restarted,
ATF recovery complete
remote-copy links and targets are re-established, the
remote-copy volumes are resynchronized, and replication
is restarted.
The recovery process that begins the synchronization of
the volume groups resets the quorum status from Failover
to Re-starting; the reason for doing so is posted as
ATF recovery complete
.
The Target failing/failed qualifier is posted for
the duration of the hold-off period between the initial
Target failing/failed
detection of a failing remote-copy target and the
declaration that the target has actually failed. At this point,
a decision whether to perform a peer-persistence failover
is taken, based upon the target failure and information
from the quorum witness infrastructure.
