Restarting Synchronous Volume Groups after Link Recovery

After you recover at least one link between the systems and remote copy marks the link(s) as Up:

If the auto_recover policy is set, the volume groups automatically restart.

The auto_recover policy affects restart only after link failure. For more information, see

“Automatically Restarting Volume Groups” (page 119)

.

If the no_auto_recover policy is set (the default), you must manually restart remote copy
on the systems in the remote-copy pair.

To do so, issue the startrcopygroup command on the primary system. The
startrcopygroup

command synchronizes the systems:

Restarts replication for the volume groups.

Reads the failed I/O from the primary virtual volumes and replicates it to the secondary
virtual volumes.

Determines the difference between the base volume and the snapshot taken immediately
after replication stopped.

Copies any new writes from the primary volume groups to the secondary volume groups.

Target Failure and Asynchronous Periodic Volume Groups

For asynchronous periodic volume groups, when all links between a remote-copy pair fail, the
following actions occur:

HP 3PAR Remote copy stops replication on both storage systems.

HP 3PAR Remote copy does not create any new snapshots.

If a resynchronization was in progress when the failure occurred, HP 3PAR Remote Copy
automatically promotes the pre-existing snapshots on the secondary volume group—but only
for those volumes that did not complete resynchronization.

For more information, see

“Snapshots and Resynchronization Failure in Asynchronous Periodic

Mode” (page 273)

.

Resynchronizing Asynchronous Periodic Volume Groups after Link Recovery

For asynchronous periodic groups, when the links are restored:

If the auto_recover policy is set, the volume groups automatically restart.

The auto_recover policy affects restart only after link failure. For more information, see

“Automatically Restarting Volume Groups” (page 119)

.

If the no_auto_recover policy is set (the default), you must manually restart remote copy
on the systems in the remote-copy pair.

To do so, issue the startrcopygroup command on the primary system.

NOTE:

For periodic asynchronous mode, running the startrcopygroup command in this

instance does not synchronize the systems.

To immediately resynchronize the volume groups, issue the syncrcopy command.
