Failing Over to the Asynchronous Periodic Backup System (No Data
Transfer)
If the primary system fails or is taken offline, you can failover the storage system to the asynchronous
periodic backup system without a final data transfer from the synchronous backup system (see
) if:
•
The asynchronous periodic backup system is functioning properly.
•
The asynchronous periodic backup system contains the most current data.
•
The synchronous backup system also failed or was brought down.
CAUTION:
Use this failover method only if:
•
You are sure the asynchronous periodic backup system contains the most current data; or
•
You have no choice because the synchronous backup system is not available for one last data
backup.
If the asynchronous periodic backup system does not contain the most current data and you use
this failover method, any data replicated to the synchronous backup system that is not yet replicated
to the asynchronous periodic backup system will be discarded.
The asynchronous periodic backup system immediately becomes the failover system and assumes
the role of the primary system.

Follow these failover and recovery guidelines to fail over to the asynchronous periodic backup
system without data transfer.
