60 Section I: Features
The wiring configuration of the port is set automatically with auto-MDI/
MDI-X to either MDI or MDI-X, depending on the wiring configuration of
the end node. This allows you to use a straight-through twisted pair cable
regardless of the wiring configuration of the port on the network device.
The auto-MDI/MDI-X feature is only available when the port is using Auto-
Negotiation. This feature is disabled and the port defaults to the MDI-X
setting if you disable Auto-Negotiation and set the port’s speed and duplex
mode manually.
