Repairing Corrupt Windows NT Software

Repairing corrupt Windows NT software requires use of the Emergency Repair Disk.
(Note that the procedure below will not correct severe problems with the Windows
NT software, such as the mistaken deletion of files. See the Windows NT manual for
additional information.)

NOTE: The Emergency Repair Disk is PDR 200 unit-specific. (The disk shipped
with your PDR200, is the only one that will work with that PDR 200). Make sure
that the Emergency Repair Disk is clearly marked with its PDR200 serial number
and keep track of this disk.

Repairing the Window NT operating system requires a copy of Windows NT. To
repair Windows NT:

1. Verify that you have the Emergency Repair Disk for this PDR 200.

2. Insert the Windows NT Setup Disk (Disk 1).

3. Restart the PDR 200.

4. When the Windows NT setup screen appears, press R (for repair). Note that the

system may ask you to insert Windows NT Disk 2 and Disk 3.

5. When prompted, insert the Emergency Repair Disk.

6. The Emergency Repair Disk performs the following:

a. Runs chkdks.exe.

b. Verifies each file in the installation and replaces any that are missing or corrupt.

c. Replaces the System, Security, and Security Accounts Manager hives in the

registry.

d. Reinstalls the Boot Loader (the boot sector, boot.ini, etc.).

7. Reboot.
