Fibre Channel

The Fibre Channel board is a 7-inch high EISA compatible board which occupies a
slot in the Profile card cage. Edge board connectors interface the board to the EISA
bus and an “over the top” connector provides the PCI bus interface to the MEDR and
SEDR boards. A 9-pin D connector Interfaces the Fibre Channel board to external
devices (another Profile or a Video Network hub).

The Fibre Channel board is a networking device which uses the Fibre Channel
Arbitrated Loop (FC-AL) protocol. The Fibre Channel board provides an interconnect
between two or more PDRs in network mode. A Gigabaud Link Module (GLM) on
the board provides a copper interface to the FC-AL as the network media.

Fibre Channel features include:

• On-board microprocessor.

• 100ns machine cycle.

• Single-cycle instruction execution.

• 128KB of 35ns static Program RAM

• Single chip FC controller interface which supports 1062 MBaud Links with eight

DMA channels and has full duplex operation. All control, communications, and
data transfers are done through this dedicated chip.

• Single chip DMA controller for PCI interface with four bidirectional FIFO

registers.

• GLM interface.

• Rear panel red Fibre Active LED.
